Yes, it’s a Tesla, in the same company’s reserved spaces in the garage as those

Tax dodging Tesla, shocking!
Showy cars in Virginia - something in the at least partially publicly-aided praetorian complex or FIRE sectors, perhaps. Or maybe tobacco.

You know I live in county 7 or Flathead County?
Given the lack of super charging stations in Montana and the upper mid west, the tesla will be more difficult to drive home than the Ferrari.

You don’t have to tell us, just tell the DMV’s of Montana and Virginia :o)

A lot of cars in NJ are registered out of state in places that don’t require inspection, South Carolina is really popular, since the insurance is so much cheaper. You drive around some cities and it’s like, why are 30% of the cars from the Carolinas? And yea , it’s insurance fraud.

Seeing as both of these cars are currently parked at my office in Virginia, just outside DC, t hat would be a very long commute back to Montana.

I’m willing to take one for the team. Shit I’d even pay for the plane ticket and fuel to drive the F12 back to Flathead county.

If I wanted to be a dick, I could fill out this handy dandy car tax evader snitching form provided by Fairfax County.

Virginia charges personal property tax on cars. Most folks just pay it but certain people register their cars out of state. It’s like a 4-5% tax depending on county so if you’ve got a high-dollar car that’s potentially a 5-figure tax bill.
One of my car nerd friends with
a similar MD-to-VA commute as me claims that VA cops love to pull over Montana tags but I don’t have any first-hand experience with that.

(Psssst. The owners of these cars probably don’t live in Montana.)

I’m aware of that, but their
car registration
fees
are keeping my roads nicely paved.

I hope the Montana cars get swallowed up in pot holes.

I wouldn’t feel bad about filling that form out one bit. Especially given the number of vehicles this person/company is pulling this stunt with, the w elfare queens!

If they leave the friendly confines of the suburbs and head into DC they will have ample opportunities to fulfill your wish.
But only for a limited time since now so much of DC is fancy, the city is raking in them tax dolla dolla bills y'all and will probably finally patch up their roads in a timelier fashion.

Well hopefully karma bites them in some other way, because I don’t think they’re hurting for money.

Between the super high annual car property tax, and prison sentences for speeders, why does any car enthusiast actually live in Virginia?
![]() 07/27/2018 at 13:58 |

If these are both owned by the same Missing-good-old-Montana, Very-concerned-about-damage-to-my-car group of people, don’t you think that they could park in their two reserved spaces next to each other, and be protected by the pole and the elevator wall? I mean, rather than needing to own/lease 4 spaces.
A re they really bad at parking? Or do they really not trust the driver of the OTHER Montana-plated car?

I am legit entitled to drive on Washington State
plates here in Virginia since wife is active duty
, but you have to register with Fairfax DTA
or else you are subject to personal property tax even with the out of state plates
.
You still get hassled
but it’s not worth the hassle of having to do inspections and flip over the registration when we don’t plan on staying here long term.

Pish posh, what do I care if the state of Virginia and/or Fairfax county get their tax dollars on two piddly Ferraris and a Tesla?

Flathead County seems great. The fact that the sheriff is the Coroner is a good start.

I think they’re parking across 2 spaces for no reason other than because they can.

It’s only jail time for reckless driving. The problem is going 80+ mph on an interstate counts as reckless driving.
(I live in Maryland where I’ m taxed in various other ways vs. Virginia. Not sure where exactly I’d come out ahead. The whole DC area is expensive.)

Well maybe you should print out said form and show it to the owners of these vehicles. Then "ask" to drive them whenever you want!
![]() 07/27/2018 at 15:47 |

I suppose I could print the form out and leave it under their wipers to mess with them. But that’s only if I were feeling mischievous .

Which suburb exactly is this?
![]() 07/27/2018 at 16:18 |

Meh, it’s likely a sign that the owners are going through/open to other illegal or questionable endeavors too to limit their tax exposure as much as possible. I know life would be very rough if we got hung up over things like this all the time - but those lost tax revenues would likely help improve the road infrastructures you share with these vehicles (and pay for).
Let’s just say my patience is short for the types of people who happen to have the loudest voice in the ears of our politicians yet are also the ones most willing and able to forego laws they prefer to not abide by with little consequence .

A VA plate drastically lowers (not eliminates, mind you, especially if you still act like an idiot) your chances of getting pulled by VA cops.

I dunno, I guess I’m jaded about it. Some rich people are going to act like jerks because they think having money entitles them to do so. The DC area has a lot of rich people, soooo...some of them will be jerks.
O verall, my anecdotal experience is that rich people in the DC area are not quite as flashy about their money as a place like Miami, or even Chicago. They’re more likely to have a nice house in the suburbs with a nice, not too flashy luxury car, and then go buy another house out at the beach or on the eastern shore of Maryland where they can park their boat(s). If you drive through the fancy parts of town, you’re just as likely to see an Accord or Prius in the driveway of a 7-figure house as you are an S-class.
![]() 07/27/2018 at 17:29 |

Sure, and I have nothing against people being rich or buying whatever car they wish. Just live by the same rules the rest of us have to as well. If you have the money for $1M worth of cars, you can also afford to pay the taxes and registration on them. If not, stop living beyond your means. Bootstraps!

Dang, my guess was Oracle but I don’t think they’re there. I guess they wouldn’t share a garage anyways.
